GALIMARD FAMILY STORY

Once upon a time, a unique combination of the rarest scents on the Cote d’Azur earned Grasse the distinguished title of the “World Capital of Perfume”.

By the end of the 18th century Grasse’s powerful perfume industry was established, setting in place the building blocks for extraordinary development and pre-eminence in the perfume kingdom.

Jean de GALIMARD lived in GRASSE in 1747 where he created PARFUMERIE GALIMARD.

Founder of the corporation of Glovemakers and Perfumers,  Jean supplied the court of Louis, the well-beloved, King of France, with olive oil, pomades and perfumes from which he developed the first formulas. Since perfume was used to scent the fashionable gloves, the industries literally grew together hand in hand.

Jean de Galimard was Lord of SERANON and related to the Count of Thorenc. For over 266 years, PARFUMERIE GALIMARD has been following the same traditions as its renowned founder and currently uses the very processes which made its name famous.

As in the past, our source is the natural resources of Grasse:  jasmine, rose, lavender, orange flower, and tuberose…… all from which we obtain our rich scents. Only the use of traditional methods can guarantee the materials incomparable fine quality.

At this time French writer Francis de Croisset observed that Grasse was “the only city in the world where the word “factory” is poetic”.

Grasse remains the principal center for the Perfume world today.

The city boasts 25 perfume factories with gross sales of over 1.3 billion USD. These companies employ 3000 skilled employees and export 60% of the total production outside of France.
